Tomato Ring

Love to garden? If so you probably realize that sometimes you spend quite a bit of time and money on growing large, lush tomato plants only to see them ruined when they collapse under their own weight. While tying the stems to a stake is one way of addressing this problem, using a tomato ring is actually a much more effective means of keeping your plants healthy and upright.A tomato ring is exactly what the name would imply; a small ring attaches to the garden stake and goes around the tomato plant, giving it room to grow while still keeping it upright and off the ground. A tomato ring is strong enough to support your plant but small enough so that it is unobtrusive in your garden. There are many advantages to using such a ring around your tomato plants, and other houseplants as well. Consider a few quick tips as to how a tomato ring can keep your garden, and even some indoor plants, healthy and strong.

Advantages

So what are the advantages of a tomato ring for your tomato and other plants? One is that it clips or clamps onto your garden stakes and stays there. Because the plant can grow through the ring, you don't need to tie and untie the plant as it grows the way you do with string. The plant can also grow healthier and thicker since it has room through the tomato ring to flourish. This is another advantage over string or twine, as these materials tend to stunt the growth of a plant. It's very difficult for any type of plant or vine to grow properly when it's lashed to a pole! There are virtually no growing plants that cannot benefit from a tomato ring. If you have plants in a garden that tend to fall under their own weight, this ring can keep them upright, off the ground, and away from predators. They're also very small and easy to store during the off-season; they can be stowed away in a drawer or bucket when not in use.

Using the Ring

To use the tomato ring you simply need to attach one to the garden stake and your plant once it gets about a foot tall. Gently feed the plant through the loop and it will continue to grow upwards. You can then use another tomato ring for every foot or foot and a half of plant growth. Remember that once the ring is attached to the stake, it doesn't need to be moved or adjusted. Simply add a new one as the plant grows and allow it to flourish.Using a tomato ring is a great way to protect your tomato and other plants. It allows for healthier plant growth which means more yield of fruits or vegetables, and keeps the plants protected as well. You also won't waste those fruits or vegetables by having them ripen on the ground where they're likely to be eaten or to rot away!
